“We appreciate her contribution Egypt in relation to Libya and of course we have to come back to what is happening in Gaza. After all, it is an issue that we have discussed for a long time and many times at the European level” he pointed out from the Egypt-Greece-Cyprus Tripartite Summit at Cairo the prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
“We must try for a cease-fire and of course the release of the hostages so that a way can be found to restart a momentum that will have to do with the two-state solution,” noted the prime minister, referring to the Middle East, while adding:
“There are several geopolitical challenges, but I think it is positive that we are working and exchanging views, recognizing the need for a cooperation with other regional players who agree with us and of course we have similar positions for a more stable Middle East that does not export problems to other countries ».
It is noted that Kyriakos Mitsotakis, before the start of the work of the Tripartite Summit, had a private meeting with the President of Egypt.
During the meeting, the excellent Greece-Egypt relations and their role for peace and stability in the wider region were discussed, especially at a time of regional challenges and turmoil.
The convening of the Greece-Egypt Supreme Cooperation Council in the next period was also discussed, the establishment of which was decided by the Joint Declaration of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Al Sisi last March in Cairo to upgrade and deepen the strategic relationship between the two countries.
The Prime Minister and the President of Egypt also discussed the cooperation of the two countries in Migration, as Egypt’s role is pivotal in order to limit illegal trafficking routes and contain the flows reaching Crete through Libya.
Cooperation to ensure legal migration routes and the possibilities of expanding the bilateral agreement on seasonal workers were also discussed. The two leaders also exchanged views on international and regional developments with an emphasis on Syria.
It is recalled that the last visit of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Cairo took place in March 2024, as part of a joint visit with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen and European leaders for the signing of the EU-Egypt Strategic and Partnership Agreement, for which Greece took the lead in emphasizing the strategic importance of Egypt’s stability to Europe, as well and the importance of Cairo in containing migration flows to European countries.
