The president of the party, Sokratis Famellos, met with Louka Katseli, who recommends the proposal of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance for the Presidency of the Republic, this morning in the Parliament.

During the dialogue they had in front of the cameras, the president of SYRIZA-PS recalled the “consistent and serious position” that his party took on this matter, pointing out: “We did not open issues, neither prematurely, nor with the aim of any internal party discussion or interests , but we felt that we should invest in the seriousness of this role, so that it would have a very good result for our country and for the institution itself. Because there are indeed important issues related to the functioning of the Republic, to the rule of law, and the election of the President of the Republic can also contribute to this debate, knowing the limits of this position”.

Regarding Mrs. Katseli’s candidacy, she expressed the opinion that “mcan contribute, since it has the characteristics of democratic values ​​and ethics, but also of a political path with a significant contribution to social issues, sustainable development issues, issues of the functioning of the economy, but also of the welfare state».

“And the international experience, but also the academic experience can also help, because we live in a world with many uncertainties, which must be able to move forward with reforms that unite society”, he said, stressing that “this nomination can to rally wider forces, not to be only a candidacy proposed by SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, but to be a progressive proposal for a country, which can progress».

For her part, Louka Katseli personally thanked S. Famello and the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance for “the highly honorable proposal”. “I accepted it, because I believe that the role of the President, especially in this very difficult moment and the dystopia we are living in globally, is a catalyst, especially for the issue of values”, he said, underlining the need for “Greece to find a value compass” . “To inspire, to give a vision and a hope to young children, to continue to fight for a just society and a safe homeland and to give content to the concepts that we use so much in the public debate, but that we rarely explain: What is meaningful democracy today, what sustainable development means, how we can ensure a better future for our children”, Mrs. Katseli continued and concluded: “I hope my own candidacy to be supported more widely and I think this will be the best that can happen.
