“It is important that Germany is placed in the camp of the European People’s Party”, stressed associates of the prime minister Kyriakou Mitsotakis on the sidelines of the meeting of the leaders of the European People’s Party, which is taking place in Berlin, underlining at the same time that “it is not good for Europe that Germany is in recession”.

According to the associates of the prime minister, who yesterday also had a bilateral meeting with the leader of the Christian Democratic Party (CDU) and candidate for chancellor in the upcoming elections, Friedrich Merz, in the CDU’s electoral program “many reforms and policies that have been implemented or are being implemented in Greece in the last five years”, such as the promised tax reduction, fiscal consistency, the stimulation of competitiveness and the digitization of the state. “This is a recipe that brought results in Greece and this was also discussed in yesterday’s meeting of Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the head of the CDU”, it is pointed out.

The leaders of the EPP, meeting at the headquarters of the Christian Democratic Party in Berlin, gave their open support to Friedrich Merz, who, according to all opinion polls, will probably be the next chancellor of Germany. The leaders’ talks focused on European competitiveness, achieving a green transition that would support European industry, regulatory issues and ways to reduce the bureaucratic burden for small and large businesses, while also discussing the European energy market, where large internal divergences and finding more resources for European defence.
