New US Secretary of State Marco Rubio wants to see an “inclusive” political transition in Syria, as he noted during a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, whose country he described as a “key ally”, he said Thursday the State Department.

Underline it “the need for an inclusive transition in Syria” and to “ensure that the new government prevents” the risk of the country “turning into a source of international terrorism”according to a press release released by State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce.

The telephone conversation between the two Foreign Ministers took place the day before Wednesday, according to the text.

These comments of Mr. Rubio echoes those of the previous administration of Joe Biden. His predecessor Anthony Blinken had used the same phrase during a tour of the region last month, following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad on December 8.

Turkey has been threatening for weeks to launch a new military operation to remove Syrian Kurdish fighters from the border.

Furthermore, the two ministers discussed the effort to have a “lasting and dignified peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan”.
