by

The raises στα fuelenergy and a series of raw materials has created an “explosive climate” in processing, said the president of SYRIZA-PS, Alexis Tsipraswho visited the facilities of Ohonos Snack, in its Industrial Area Sindos.

The CEO of the company, Nontas Ochonos, told the president of SYRIZA-PS that “the situation regarding the increases in the prices of raw materials and energy has gotten out of control”. According to Mr. Ochonos, the increases in oils reached 100% and 150% in raw materials used for the production of products (chips, shrimp, croissants, etc.), the gas bill has increased six times compared to May 2021, while the electricity bill is also increased. He noted that this situation also creates problems in the competitiveness of companies. “I have been in the field for 40 years and for the first time I see such an uncontrollable situation. “If it continues, we risk having an existential problem,” he said characteristically.

For his part, o Alexis Tsipras expressed concern about how companies that will not be able to lift the burden and may even reduce jobs or even close down will react.

THE President of SYRIZA-PS took a tour of the factory, saw the production stages and talked to several employees. He asked them how they cope with the accuracy and listened to the difficulties they face, while being photographed with them. One of the employees offered him a bouquet and wished him “happy birthday” for his name day.

Visit to a gas station

Earlier, Mr. Tsipras visited Gas Station in its area Kalamaria and discussed the issue of price spikes and the problems that arise with the president of the Panhellenic Federation of Gas Traders (POPEK) and the Union of Petrol Dealers of Thessaloniki, Themis Kiourtzis and the vice president of the Union, Christos Stavrakis.

As soon as he arrived at the gas station, Mr. Tsipras turned his gaze to the price table and asked Mr. Kiourtsis how much the gas station earns when the price of unleaded is at 2 euros. His profit per liter is about 5 minutes, answered Mr. Kiourtsis and pointed out that the profit, in general, ranges from 3% -5%.

Immediately after, the president of SYRIZA-PS asked about subsidy that the government gives to fuel and the answer was that it is small and for a few.

The discussion then revolved around its topic reduction of Special Consumption Tax on fuel and the president of POPEK stressed that gasoline should not be allowed to reach 2 euros, criticized the governments over time and developed the demands of the industry he represents.

Messrs. Kiourtzis and Stavrakis stressed that the huge increase in fuel prices has led to a drop in consumption by 20 to 25%.

They agreed with the remark of the president of SYRIZA – PS that the reduction of the tax on fuel will lead to the fight against smuggling, pointing out that “in this part of the price increase the only winner is definitely the thief”.

They called for substantial measures to be taken against fuel smuggling, saying that the evading taxes amount to several million euros.
