‘The demand of society to highlight truth and justice in terms of the tragic accident of Tempi is fair, reasonable, healthy and pandemic“, Said the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras, in his radio interview.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport added: ‘It is absolutely human for society to support the relatives of the victims. In any case, we must all avoid logical and practices of social division and automation. Empathy is required, total respect for victims’ relatives, seriousness and calm“

To a question about the finding of National Air Force and Transport Security and Transport Security Organization (EPANAAM), Mr Staikouras responded that the purpose of the establishment of EPASAM is to enhance transport safety.

As he said: ‘In this finding, two of the three members come from the European Railway Organization (ERA). The Agency has already made recommendations to our country with a finding, which has issued in October 2023. On the basis of this, we have agreed on an action plan since April 2024 and which we are currently implementing and presenting the European Commission every two months. In September, November 2024 and January 2025 we have handed over to Europeans the reports on the progress of enhancing transport security. And we are on the right track, as ERA and the European Commission confirms. But the pathogens are chronic, they are timeless and want patience and perseverance“

Asked about new buses, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport replied:

‘We are committed to 950 new buses on the streets of Attica by the end of summer 2025. Today, another 27 new 18m buses will be on the streets of Athens, which will replace an important part of the aging fleet. So, today we are on 405 new buses and we are running a new competition from the Recovery Fund to have another 125 buses in the summer of 2026“
