The prime minister attended the event for the reopening of the Olympic Village Swimming Pool – “to enjoy it, to be entertained”
“My presence here today I believe it has a distinctive symbolism, because apparently the inauguration of any sports facility It is always a moment great joy and optimism. Today’s facility, however, has a distinct value and a special importance, as you, Mr. Mayor, and dear residents of the Olympic Village, are well aware of the situation in which this site had fallen after Brilliant 2004 Olympics‘, pointed out the prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis In his greeting at the event for the Reopening the Olympic Village Swimming Pool.
“And today we are at the very pleasant moment, 21 years after that unique event who raised Greece so high and made us all so proud of, to We attribute again to the local community, to the inhabitants of the Olympic Village, In the sports clubs of the wider area this fully remodeled Olympic poolIn order to be able to enjoy it, to be entertained, but also to give, especially to young children, the opportunity to love sports and especially swimming. “
The prime minister wanted to stand in particular as he said “In the great importance we have attributed to maintenance – I emphasize this to maintenance – of existing sports infrastructure. Because the Greek state is good at constructing projects but very bad on maintaining them and the history of the Olympic facilities, I believe that it certifies this reality with the most, I would say, a revealing way.
And yet, step by step, bending over the problems, we have managed, having invested significant resources, to render back to society, important Olympic facilitiesbut at the same time to do important intervention, infrastructure but mainly repair projects, in sports centers throughout the country.
I think this project absolutely certifies that eventually every government is judged not by its intentions but in the end by the its effects.
And as we are already in the sixth year of governance, we are now in the phase where projects that have matured, have been studied, with great effort and with great effort, because one does not know how much work it takes to be able to complete a project, we have reached the point where many such works, not only in the Greeks. A small indicative example is this swimming pool, which will again be re -operated.
It is really very moving to think -and I refer mainly to athletes who remember this facility from the Olympics -if one thinks that the kids we saw, with this impressive program, are the first to enter this pool, first after 21 years. But much more will follow. And that makes us all extremely optimistic. “
Concluding his greeting, the prime minister stressed: “Finally, a little chat for our children: Love sports. Love sports, Because you will find that it will give you joys that are truly unique.
You will make friendships that will last a lifetime. They will allow you to see yourself and your potential through a different point of view. Not just for our champions, because it is certain that the many children who will start swimming in this pool will come up with champions, because not tomorrow Olympians, but for anyone, for each and for each one.
Because, of course, as you are in the water, and want it, you can’t see a cellphone, technology has not gone so much yet, but the sport will really give you unique joys.
I wish this work really is a project that will be enjoyed first and above all the residents of the area, the local clubs. And I am sure that from now on, here, we will hear many happy voices in this place and see many smiling faces. And that, in the end, is the Greater satisfaction for us politicians“
