“The priority of subway expansion is in northwestern Thessaloniki and is worth it,” the Deputy Minister of Transport said at the Greece Talks conference
The target set for the expansion of the Thessaloniki subway to Kalamaria, by the end of 2025, was reaffirmed today by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Nikos Tahaios.
Speaking at the Greece Talks conference, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure stressed: “The goal is by the end of 2025. We have put a milestone in one year after the basic line to operate the Kalamaria subway”adding that the venture has several difficultiesas they are required “Multiple contracts that need to be combined with each other in order to integrate the whole system and the Kalamaria subway into the base line”.
Referring to extensions of Measure toward airportMr. Tahaios referred to the Thessaloniki Metro Development Study, which shows that the first priority for the city is not the airport. “The priority of the subway expansion is in northwestern Thessaloniki and is worth it. For the Flyoverthe Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport assured that its construction was proceeding on the basis of the timetable set, arguing that the project is delivered in May 2027. As he said: “Everybody sees that the project is running at a rapid pace and to achieve the goal we set are working a multitude of people incessantly.”
Closing his position, Mr. Tahaios emphasized that “If we want Thessaloniki to go forward, we have to believe our city and trust it. Thessaloniki is a city in which we owe a lot and a city for which we have to work to make it better. “
