The bridge was destroyed by floods in 2020 – “Today we heal another wound in Euboea,” the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport said.
The new bridge in Afrati Chalkida (which was destroyed by floods in 2020), Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas and the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for infrastructure, Nikos Tahaio, was surrendered.
According to the official announcement, the new bridge in Afrati is part of the project that included complete reconstruction of it and the bridge Sheetwhich was delivered in April 2024, the repair of the Vasilikos Bridge, which will be ready next month, as well as road, flood protection and anti -corrosion projects in the wider area of the three bridges.
On the occasion of the surrender to the use of the Afrati Bridge, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas said:
“Euboea has been hit hard in recent years by extreme weather and natural disasters.
Today we heal another wound by releasing the bridge to Afrati, and about a year ago the bridge was delivered to the leaves and the basils of the Basilican Bridge, as well as the new node of Vasilikos, were completed.
Projects aimed at both the restoration and improvement of the local network in terms of high durability and road safety as well as the flood protection of the area.
Next to the restoration projects of “Daniel” and in the coming years the works of the bypass of Chalkida and Psachna, as well as the northern Axon road of Northern Euboea.
The presence of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport will continue to be very intense in the coming years, with the aim of completing very important projects that will enhance the safety of travel and the quality of life of residents and visitors of Euboea. “
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for infrastructure Nikos Tahaiosstressed:
“Euboea, especially in recent years, has been tested many times by natural disasters, and in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport we consider it our duty to support citizens.
Today we are delivering a work of great value to the local community, both social and economically. The new bridge in the settlement of Afrati, road interventions and concomitant flood protection projects substantially improve the daily lives of residents and visitors while ensuring safe and quality movements, enhancing the resilience of the area to future phenomena. It is a project that demonstrates the commitment of the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis for substantial infrastructure that protects, facilitates and enhance the lives of citizens.

Also present at the Delivery Ceremony were the Regional Governor of Central Greece, Fanis Spanos, the Evia MP Simos Kedikoglou, the Mayor of Halkidiki Elena Vaka and the Vice -Mayor Euboea, George Kelaiditis. The sanctification was performed by His Eminence Metropolitan Chalkida, Istiea and Northern Sporades Mr. Chrysostom.
