The Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, as a spokesman for the Socialists in the European Committee of the Regions, visited Ankara on Saturday and met with the leadership of the People’s Republican Party and President Ozgur Ozeli at the offices of the party.
In his speech, Haris Doukas noted: “We call for the immediate and unconditional liberation of the Mayor of Constantinople, Ekrem Imoglou. We are calling for a fair trial and of course we declare our full support for the people of Turkey, the struggle for democracy and a rule of law. “
The leadership of the People’s Republican Party thanked him for the support and stressed that his presence in Ankara was very important.
The European Socialist delegation was also attended by MEPs, Bundestag members and other officials from Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and France.
