A 45 -day extension – until June 15th – was announced during the prime minister’s visit to the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.

The deadline expired on April 30, as the firefighting season begins on May 1, and Kyriakos Mitsotakis appealed to the citizens to overcome last year’s 700,000 cleaned plots.

“It was properly extended until June 15,” the prime minister said, calling on a larger number of cleaning “in the context of a collective effort against a phenomenon that will become more and more difficult to deal with.”

“The hardest ones are in front of us and we need to be ready for the worst possible scenarios, we have to prepare, but also take care to improve every year. The climate crisis is with us, and we know that our summers will be warmer and dryer, we will have climatic conditions, which will favor the start of fires and their rapid development, “Mr Mitsotakis noted and expressed his satisfaction with the fact that he was” so used by the technology “.

As the prime minister said, the cleaning of plots without a doubt protected property and helped the Fire Brigade.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis was informed of the preparation of the state mechanism and stressed that the number of firefighters is larger than ever this year and the number of volunteers is increasing.

Finally, he wished the men and women of the Fire Brigade, the volunteers and executives of the local government, “to all who will give this summer this difficult and sometimes unequal struggle against the fires,” he said.

For his part, Minister of Civil Protection and Climate Crisis, Yiannis Kefalogiannis, also referred to the extension for about 45 days for the process of cleaning the plots, stressing that “this year there will be strict surveillance of all cleaning and municipalities and where appropriate will be imposed.”

In addition, he warned that “we have a very difficult summer to face ahead of us” and pointed out that “we must have the best preparation in the face of the critical firefighting season”.

He added that 18,000 women and men of permanent staff and seasonal, the largest number of men and women in the Fire Brigade – would also be assisted by the organizations and 5,000 volunteer firefighters, while the drones will also reach 80 volunteers.
