The president of PASOK – Movement for Change, speaking at the plenary session of the European Parliament that met today, referred to the need to take immediate measures of solidarity for vulnerable social groups.
In his speech, Mr. Androulakis stressed:
“Today, the Summit must decide on immediate measures that will shield the citizens and the European economy as a whole, such as the common gas markets and the creation of common strategic reserves, financial instruments such as the Eurobond and the financing of support measures, investments for our independence in a socially just and sustainable way from fossil fuels.
Finally, the Recovery Fund must focus on investments that will upgrade the networks, making the production from Renewable Energy Sources possible for all citizens and not only for the few.
But also at the national level, the reduction of VAT on basic necessities, the imposition of extraordinary taxation on the super profits of energy companies for the entire period of the energy crisis and the ceiling on the retail price of electricity in the adjustment clause. “All these proposals are a framework of solidarity of the peoples of Europe that can tackle inequalities in this way, but also to ensure the geopolitical security of Europe.”
