Greece’s support in the process of integrating the Western Balkans in the EU, Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis from Warsaw, where he participates in Informal meeting of European Union Foreign Ministers. At the same time, however, he made it clear that the prerequisite for this is “the commitment to international law, the commitment to the rule of law, the respect of the principles of democracy”.

Mr Gerapetritis said that this meeting is taking place at an extremely critical time for the strategic autonomy of the European Union, which he said, must develop its defensive potential, enhance its international footprint so that it can, in the world, have a very strong position in difficult times.

“We are discussing today on the issue of the Western Balkans, pre -accession process. Greece has always been an active force, a hurrying force in the integration of the Western Balkans into the European family, “he said and added:

“We will continue to be a helper of this effort. It is important to make it clear that some of the principles of the European Union, the European family, remain non -negotiable, such as the commitment to international law, the commitment to the rule of law, the respect of the principles of democracy. “

Mr Gerapetritis noted that today, 80 years after the end of World War II, we are unfortunately at the worst moment in the world since “for more than three years, we have the war in Ukraine after the Russian attack. There are still hostilities in Gaza. And every day we have new outbreaks of conflict in the world, as is the case between India and Pakistan. But also conditions that are derogatory to people, as is the case in sub -Saharan Africa and especially in Sudan, with displaced and the limits of poverty. “

And the Greek Foreign Minister concluded: “The European Union and the whole world will have to emphasize so that the teachings of World War II remain active. Human value, freedom, should be the first and big demand in the world. “
