The possibility of adopting the “French model” which stipulates that in order to maintain the vaccination certificate, people over 65 should have a third dose of the vaccine, left the government spokesman, Giannis Oikopomou during the briefing of the policies authors.

As he characteristically said, there will be “point improvements” of the health measures, without deviating from the planning philosophy for the restraint of the pandemic, while he clarified that there is no discussion about restricting the freedoms for the vaccinated and any kind of Lockdown.

“We have a basic philosophy of sanitary measures, from which no major exceptions will be made. Top priorities of this philosophy are to increase vaccination coverage for both the first and third doses. The third dose is extremely important for all those who have been vaccinated with the previous doses. What the government needs to do to ensure that people continue to be protected against coronavirus by being properly vaccinated, that is, vaccinated with the third dose after a certain period of time, as our experts determine you to be sure to do so, keeping track of the increase numbers of these vaccinations. Beyond that, because I often hear the debate about measures, about ideas, about things that are being discussed in public debate, I have to tell you that there is a basic philosophy. Implementation of the sanitary measures, great effort to increase the vaccination coverage, we will do what is required for this for the first and the third dose and continuous effort to support the NSS. There will be no deviations from this basic philosophy. “There will be point improvements that will not deviate from the essence of what we have announced and that we are trying to achieve,” he said.

Regarding the unvaccinated, he noted that “we have protocols for the mobility of the unvaccinated, we emphasize the vaccination with the first, but also with the third dose”.

In any case, he stressed that the government is not discussing any kind of mandatory vaccination and sanctions, however “there is a debate in Greece and in Europe as to whether the disease certificate will be linked to the third installment.”

Regarding the strengthening of the NSS, he announced that from tomorrow the Ministry of Health will start the procedures for ordering services, if tonight, when the deadline for the expression of interest by the doctors to provide their services in the hospitals, it is found that there is great interest.

“The Ministry of Health has given incentives to private doctors in order to temporarily strengthen the Health System. Tonight we are waiting for the final results of this move, the answers from the medical associations in this direction. “Depending on the gaps that exist, the Ministry of Health is ready and from tomorrow, according to the provisions, the process of ordering the services of private doctors for the strengthening of the NSS will begin”, he pointed out.
