“We are commemorating the memory of the hundreds of thousands of Pontian genocide as it was established in 1994 on the initiative of Andreas Papandreou”
PASOK President Nikos Androulakis attended the events of Municipality of Thessaloniki ‘The Flame of Memory’ in her monument Genocide of Pontian Hellenism.
In statements he said, among other things:
“We are commemorating the memory of the hundreds of thousands of victims of the Pontian genocide today as it was established in 1994 by the Greek Parliament on the initiative of Andreas Papandreou’s government.
We honor the memory of the people who were uprooted by their ancestral homes. We honor the memory of the people who came here, in their place, and grew up.
We have a debt, as a state, to fight with all our might to have an international recognition of the Pontian genocide. It’s not just a national bet. It is a human goal. Because only the strong collective memory is a force of deterioration of similar atrocities against humanity, especially at a time when this nightmare is still here. “
