Storm has erupted inside PASOK following statements by former Finance Minister Nikos Christodoulakis who has spread to the party for the choices of the Memorandum period.

PASOK MEP Nikos Papandreou made a sharp announcement inviting Mr Christodoulakis to leave the party bodies if he disagrees with the official line.

“Mr. Christoulakis’ view lacks economic logic. Countries do not reach bankruptcy within months and unexpectedly. Unfortunately, bankruptcy was the result of many years of political and management failure. So those who have ruled are responsible for their actions and omissions, their words and their silence, “the MEP said, adding:
PASOK – in the view of much of Greek society and certainly its voters and executives – has made a titanic attempt to save the economy from the absolute collapse with all the tragic social consequences it would have. This was done in a storm of political adventure and extreme populism, which certainly made the road longer and more painful for all our fellow citizens.
I do not know what Mr Christodoulakis is referring to when he chooses to refer to a “less painful road”. But if this is indeed his view, he should be allowed to develop it freely. At the same time, of course he should also give up the party’s organs
