The attempt to cut the umbilical cord that connects the government with the OPECEPE scandal is marked by the resignation of the Minister of Migration yesterday. Maki Voridis and the Deputy Foreign Ministers Tasu HatzivasiliouRural development and food Dionysus Stamenite and digital governance Christos Boukouro. Their removal from the government was made after a series of meetings the prime minister had Kyriakos Mitsotakis At the Maximos Palace with his associates, shortly after his return from Brussels. What was borne by the decisions taken was that the publication of the files in the case forms a very unfavorable picture of the government, as its executives appear to operate in a client’s customer mentality. “We cannot say that the government is seeking to bring the country to a new era and at the same time revealing mindset and black -haired practices”he says a government official.

From the Maximus Grand Staff, they say that although corruption on agricultural subsidies is timeless, Mr Mitsotakis did not want to cultivate the impression that this timelessness can be an excuse for continuing some of the worst practices of the past. Chose instead to move in a way that marks zero tolerance in such practices.

Certainly in the decisions taken were measured by the fact that extensive extracts of telephone conversations, which show government officials calling for a bypassing regulations or encouraging illegal acts, give the image to corruption. In the coming days the issue will come to the House, as it is prejudiced that opposition parties will submit proposals for pre -trial. The government would be defending the opposition’s attacks on the actions of its executives, based on their own words, and it had to be shown that what was said in the previous days, that after studying the data in the case, they would proceed with their seriousness.

The factor of an underlying dissatisfaction within the government faction should not be overlooked. Members and government officials have been appearing in their interlocutors all the last few days to show strong concern about the fact that just days after the completion of the pre -trial procedure for Kostas Karamanlis and Tempi, the party and the government are located. again in the vortex of a new referral procedure. It is an annoyance because, as they say, it is cultivated the impression that they are scandalous around the government, for which they themselves should apologize.

It was this accumulation of burden on the image of the government, public opinion and MPs and government officials who made a one -way drastic measures one -way. And led to the request of the resignations of Mr Voridis and the Deputy Ministers. Indeed, Maximus wanted to make it clear that it was not a communicative move, which was horizontally, on the righteous and the wrongs, but that the real data were evaluated before decisions were made separately. Thus, the Deputy Minister of Rural Development, Christos Kellasremains in place. And this is because, as Maximus’ sources say, “There is no thing in his case”. For the three deputy ministers who have resigned, the point is that “Politically speaking, their attitude as MPs is not in line with ministerial capacity.”

The case of Maki Voridis is different, as there is no acceptance of accusations from him and, as he says in his letter, resignation will help the moves to defend his innocence against the opposition and the expected proposals to investigate his responsibilities. And on the side of Maximus the position is that it is about ‘Political move’which in no way implies acceptance of criminal liability. Of course, as Mr Voridis is a special political executive, it remains to be seen how “velvety” will prove to be his resignation, as well as the other steps in managing the case.

Concerning the next moves, the government leadership say they will first wait to see the proposals that the opposition will submit and complete the study of all the data before proceeding with any move. The prime minister, who will be in Crete at the weekend, will make his decisions on replacing resigned, who are expected to be announced on Monday, following the cabinet meeting.
