At a teleconference between the Regional Governor of Crete, the Mayors of Heraklion, Rethymno and Chania and the Minister of Migration and Asylum, Mr. Plevris pointed out that the new structure It is going to be completed at a time when it will not serve the needs during the summer, sources in the ministry say and made it clear that in any case, it will be consulted with local communities and there will be no surprise.
Mr Plevris emphasized the need to exploit the regional governor’s proposal for the temporary presence of three spaces, one in each law, considering that it is necessary to avoid images observed in the immediate past and asked the three mayors to indicate them. He also clarified that the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum would assist in their funding.
At the same time, he said that as long as the asylum suspension process lasts, positions have been secured either at the Greek Police’s pre -operational detention centers (PROPOSTA) or in the provisional ministry structures in order to make the detention. Consequently, he estimated that most of the arrivals would not burden Crete. However, he stressed that these temporary spaces are necessary as it is not excluded that there will be flows that will be directed directly to the island.
The teleconference was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Sevi Voloudakis and the Secretary General of the Asylum Applicants, Dimitris Glymis.
