The referral of Kostas Ah. Karamanlis at the Judicial Council on the offense of breach of duty was decided by the House of Representatives, with 157 “yes”. Six MPs voted against, and a single 164 voting was found in the ballot box.
The secret ballot was abstained all the opposition parties, except for the Freedom Cruise which participated in the vote.
There were several of the 25 independent MPs abstained, including MPs involved in the Democracy Movement.
Following the announcement of the outcome of the vote, the President of the Vice President of the House Athanasios Bouras announced that the President of the House Nikita Kaklamanis will initiate the procedures provided for by the Constitution, the CSB and the Law on the Responsibility of Ministers. That is to say, a letter will be sent to the Ministry of Justice in order to send the list of members of the Supreme Court and the CoE who have the legal qualifications in order for a forthcoming plenary session to draw up the five regular and three alternate members of the Judicial Council as well as the Judicial Council.
Given that the proposal was voted for by all the MPs of the “blue” lineup (except for Kostas Karamanlis who cannot vote), the ND proposal received three votes, probably from the Independent. It is noted that the independent, coming from the Spartans, Michalis Gagiotakis and George Aspiotis, also participated in the vote. A total of 6 MPs voted against, coming from the Freedom Sun.
However, even during the secret ballot, the tones did not fall, with the thermometer rising – sometimes dangerously – between Zoe Konstantopoulou and ND MPs (including Lefteris Avgenakis).
Following today’s green plenary light, the Judicial Council will be set up by drawing in a public meeting by Parliament Speaker Nikita Kaklamanis.
