In a particularly acute and conflicting climate today is the first round of the harsh political confrontation focusing on the OPECEPE scandal. Yesterday, in the debate on the majority proposal to set up an Inquiry Committee, the particular element was not the very high tones that dominated, but the fact that many categories and spikes were formulated on a personal level. The prime minister’s conflict with the PASOK president dominated, but there were no very harsh characterizations by other political leaders.

The situation is not expected to differentiate today, nor do the tones be lowered. Anyway, the indictment in the two proposals for pre -trial (one by PASOK and one second by SYRIZA and New Left) to investigate their criminal responsibilities Maki Voridis and Lefteris Avgenakisit’s very hard. The two ministers will speak in plenary today to respond to the charges they are attributed to and will reiterate that they do not consider that they have done something illegal or that any responsibility from the case file is arising. Of course, their explanations, which have been formulated and publicly all recently, are not expected to be accepted by the opposition parties and an explosive climate is discounted.

If the information that wants ND is confirmed. to leave the vote for pre -trialit is certain that this will trigger a new cycle of attacks by the opposition and complaints for an organized attempt to cover up and for fear of the government that it cannot control the parliamentary group whose confidence has lost confidence and fears the vote of MPs in a secret ballot.

The votes of the opposition parties are not enough, of course, to pass the proposal to set up pre -trial criticism. So the first round for the OPEKEPE scandal closes with the decision on an Inquiry Committee taken yesterday. The government is investing in the break until August 15th for a change of agenda and believe that the issue, as it will be difficult to continue to be fueled with new data, will retreat.

Of course, OPECEPE’s issue does not end here. The establishment of the Inquiry Committee will bring it back to the forefront in September. At the same time, the information insists that a new case file is expected to come to Parliament on the OPEKEPE scandal, which will concern Members. So the discussion on the issue will reopen.

The bet for the government – and this will be important – is to be able to recover the initiative of movements and impose its own agenda, with emphasis on policy production and problems that make citizens’ daily life difficult. With interventions such as tomorrow’s, which the prime minister will inaugurate the delivery of the largest part of Patras – Pyrgos Road65 kilometers long, a project that has been pending for decades and is completed after many delays and postponements.
