The Minister of Immigration and Asylum Thanos Plevris visits the closed type structure in Almondain the context of preparing the reception services in view of the vote on the new bill for the illegal immigration.
The Minister of Immigration toured the premises, was informed in detail about the recording and identification procedures and also talked with employees of the structure.
The new bill of the Ministry of Immigration is being discussed in the House Committees next week and rules are established to return those who live illegally in the country.
The Minister of Immigration and Asylum Thanos Plevris will go to Samos tomorrow where he will visit the relevant structure, following the tour, on August 7th to five structures in Malakasa, Oinofyta, Ritsona, Thebes and Schisto.
The basic targeting is “to be all prepared for the new measures that the bill brings”.
What did Th. Plevris ask
The minister has now requested, in the structures, to provide immediate information to those who seek asylum that, if their application is rejected because they do not have a refugee profile, they will face a prison sentence of 2 to 5 years. The goal is to speed up returns, even before the asylum process is completed.
The functioning of the structures will be immediately adapted to the requirements of the new law, with the aim of effectively implementing the strict political deterrence of illegal immigration.
