In a direct confrontation between the government and the Municipality of Athens for Queen Olga, with three ministries responding to a joint press release.
In particular, with a joint press release, the Ministries of Environment and Energy, Culture, and Infrastructure and Transport make it clear that any amendment to the operation of Vasilissis Olga Street requires new approvals by the competent services and cannot be unilaterally made by the Municipality of Athens.
Indeed, the same announcement states that “recent announcements by the Municipality of Athens” do not produce legal results “and call on the municipality to observe the procedures set by the institutional framework”.
It is noted that Vas. Olga is located within the declared archaeological site of Athens, and significant archaeological finds that are preserved and emerged during the redevelopment work.
In detail the press release of the three ministries:
It is necessary to adhere to the institutional framework for any modification of the operation of Vasilissis Olga Street
The Ministries of Environment and Energy, Culture, Infrastructure and Transport notes that proposed interventions in the approved manner of the operation of Vasilissis Olga Street re -assert decisions of the relevant services of the relevant Ministries.
Vasilissis Olga Street is located within the declared archaeological site of Athens, and during the ongoing work of the redevelopment, important antiquities have been revealed, which are preserved and emerged. At the same time, it is a communal space of particular importance.
For this reason, the implementation of the existing redevelopment of the street has received all the required approvals from the Central Council of Architecture, by Act 321 of the 19th Session of 2021, as well as by the Ministry of Culture, by the decision of the Ministry of Culture, by the decision “Reconstruction SA”, supervised by the relevant ministries and funded by national resources.
Considering the above, as well as the passage of the tram from the road, the OASA agreement is also required, as defined in Article 52 of the Road Traffic Code, while the compatibility of these amendments to the current legislation and transport studies is the subject of control of the Technical Services.
Therefore, the relevant initiatives of the Municipality of Athens, as announced, do not produce legal results. The Municipality is called upon to comply with the institutional framework provided by the institutional framework.
