Specifically, the Prime Minister and President of New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed:
“The Government’s focus is on northern Greece, in Thessaloniki, with a special care, my dear Mayor, for Western Thessaloniki.
I see mayors of Western Thessaloniki today with us, I want to thank them individually for the excellent cooperation we have. I would like to thank Apostolos, because this project is so important for Western Thessaloniki as a whole and not only for the Municipality of Pavlos Melas. It could not have been done if we did not achieve this level of cooperation between the first, second degree Local Government and the central Government.
And to assure the municipalities of Western Thessaloniki inhabited by the youngest population of the country, that our development policy is primarily focused on our young people. And that’s why we will not stop here, we will have other interesting announcements, but we never talk unless we are absolutely sure that we can mature and implement the projects for which we are committed.
And you should know, Mayor, that I will personally follow the development of this project, so that we can build a park which will not only be enjoyed by the whole of Thessaloniki, but which at the same time will be sustainable, financially independent, so that we can enjoy it. , as we will deliver it for many decades.
Because the purpose is not only to make projects that are nice at the time we deliver them, we must have ensured the financial viability and those resources that will allow the Municipality to maintain it, upgrade it and then improve it .
And in this effort I want to assure all the Mayors of Western Thessaloniki, but also all the citizens of Western Thessaloniki, that I will be personally close to this effort to reduce inequalities.
“Because there are inequalities today, as there were inequalities in infrastructure between Thessaloniki and the rest of Greece, so there are internal inequalities in the wider urban fabric of Thessaloniki, which we are here to correct and cure.”

“I attach great importance to the reconstruction and from the first moment, when I was just an MP and dealt a little with the issues of Thessaloniki, I watched the conversations about the possible relocation of the Exhibition to another place and I wondered having visited many Conferences, as many of you imagine , but what the exhibitors, the delegates, want today is to go to an enclosed space outside the city where we build hotels, restaurants or if they want to be inside the city.
Many cities today do not have this comparative advantage of space. So, we will have the opportunity to have a pole of financial exhibition business activity all year round along with a parking lot in the city center. And we do not need to go and create new hotel infrastructure, the city itself will solve these, the whole city will work, that is, from this investment and Thessaloniki will be able to acquire a new landmark, because the architectural competition really was a very creative competition which resulted in a very nice proposal which was finally approved by the council.
So, as the Exhibition was a landmark with the Tower in the previous decades, so it will be again, my Mayor, a landmark for the city and I am really glad that all the institutions and the Region and the Municipality understood that finally this was the right choice to stay Exhibition here and the renovation in situ, as you described it “.
