The political agenda of this year’s TIF is dense. From tax and precision to OPEKEPE and Tempi. Quite unanswered questions. DW was there.

The completion of the 100th anniversary of the TIF-HELEXPO exhibition body is an opportunity for the Thessaloniki International Exhibition to look back on itself and reinforce its international character. The lack of honored country this year does not help at all. Last weather’s introversion on the issues of its regeneration has certainly affected it.

At a time when many business contacts and transactions take place, the need to modernize TIF and adapt to new data is imperative the train of evolution will overcome it. Where do so many and large state kiosks serve? TIF’s thematic exhibitions go well and point the way.

The world of the city and the exhibitors are hugging during the intense first political three -day TIF every year. Two weekends are committed to the closure of roads, a police scene and the suffering of citizens. Moderate voices propose distribution of the TIF political leg. Why not?

Unanswered questions on big issues

This year’s TIF dominated discussions on the tax measures announced by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis overshadowing many important foreign policy and everyday issues. The accuracy concerns almost all Greek citizens and weighs the government, so the burden falls there, while reinforcing its efforts on critical housing and demographic issues.

The impression caused an aversion to the Greek prime minister’s response to the press conference that the Greek government has a way of imposing reductions on retail power prices. In what way?

The echo of the OPECEPE scandal dominated the press conference and discussions in the first three days of this year’s TIF. It was obvious that it has been politically and morally affected by the government, causing a climate of introversion as criticism by citizens is daily and intense.

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office is continuing its investigations into OPEKEPE and other cases, such as mismanagement of funds in the so -called “recycling houses”. Kyriakos Mitsotakis pledged to the press conference that “we will take back the stolen” and that the audit was proceeding with the next 5,000 VAT IDs for the OPECEPE case. “Why was he perpetuated? Who benefited? What were the companies behind this technical solution? Why was OPEKEPE never been able to gain absolute technological independence and was a permanently bound information systems that others provided? “Were the questions posed by the Greek prime minister himself at the press conference for which Greek society had not received a response.

On the subject of Tempi, Kyriakos Mitsotakis pledged a safer rail. But when will this process be completed so that one can travel to Greece by train without second thoughts? Protest rallies about Tempi in Thessaloniki and other cities in Greece on Saturday were crowded and the climate of dissatisfaction is intense. Outside the TIF at the time of the prime minister’s speech, there were no missions between protesters and citizens who watched the speech.

On the hot issue of immigration, the Greek prime minister defended the strict strategy for guarding the country’s borders, announcing a law on legal immigration but did not respond to the extension or extension of the extraordinary measure of suspension of asylum requests. What about the implementation of the Pact for Migration and Asylum and Secondary Migration? The latter is also a thorn in Greek -German relations.

The Greek prime minister’s responses to developments in the Middle East and the ongoing crisis in Gaza were impressed. He probably pointed out for the first time so clearly the Greek government’s intention to recognize the state of Palestine, but not clarifying when and how. He emphasized the need to stop as the “unthinkable humanitarian crisis” said in one of his clear openings to the center of the center and the center -left.

Return Tsipras?

Tsipras ‘speech at the Economist conference in Thessaloniki, even at the time of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ arrival in the city, shook the waters of this year’s TIF. Adopting technocratic profile, he criticized government policy without even entering the process of specific proposals.

The concepts of “democratic capitalism” and “new patriotism” require specific measurable results. In the wells of the TIF there was a feeling that he would create a new political body. With what political project and what executives? Will he resign from a SYRIZA MP? The next time will be dense developments.

“Why did you cut so many media?”

Another press conference of a Greek prime minister at the TIF observed the timeless phenomenon for the majority of questions to be made by journalists of government reports and media from Athens. Measured questions from the inside of Thessaloniki and by regional media and none of the international media.

The intense protest of colleagues from the Rizospastis newspaper and Jacobin Greece magazine for their exclusion from the questions of the questions caused a sensation in the room. A little “rotation” that would enhance polyphony would probably hurt anyone. Not only journalists but also the citizens of independent political shades ask for it.
