Provocative announcement as a reaction to statements for the Memorial Day of Genocide of Greeks in Asia Minorhe issued the Turkish Foreign Ministry, which is also making strictly tunes to the Greek authorities, in order to avoid “initiatives aimed at incitement to hostility between the two nations”.
More specifically the announcement of Turkish Foreign Minister:
“On some events held and statements made on September 14, 2025 in Greece. We reject the unfounded and outrageous statements made by the Greek authorities on the pretext of the alleged anniversary of unfounded allegations about the period during which Greece participated in attempts to invade and possess Anatolia.
Such observations contradict historical events and efforts to strengthen friendly relations between the two countries.
We call on the Greek authorities to abstain from acting with internal political motives and to take initiatives aimed at incitement to hostility between the two nations. “
Earlier, the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakisin his weekly review on Facebook, he had reported:
“In closing, I would like to pay tribute to today’s memory of the Genocide of the Greeks of Asia Minor by the Turkish state. September will remind us of the tragedy of an entire nation. A memory that, as Smyrna George Seferis wrote, “where you touch her, is in the sake of it” and invites us not to forget. Because a people who forget their story is doomed to live it again.
