Kimberly Gilfil’s name is included in the list of 48 candidates who ratified the Senate Thursday afternoon, formally making the new US ambassador to Greece, with her post on X declaring that it is “my honor to serve as the first woman”. It is noted that Gilfail was among 48 candidates who were voted after changing the rules of the Senate by the Republicans, so that a simple majority is sufficient instead of 60 votes, accelerating the approval of government appointments.

At the same time, as Ignatius noted, Gilfile met with Greece’s Minister of Maritime and Island Policy Vasilis Kikilia at the reception given in honor of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The reception was also attended by Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou, Ignatius added, “who had a good conversation with her.
