Kimberly Gilfil’s name is included in the list of 48 candidates who ratified the Senate Thursday afternoon, formally making the new US ambassador to Greece, with her post on X declaring that it is “my honor to serve as the first woman”. It is noted that Gilfail was among 48 candidates who were voted after changing the rules of the Senate by the Republicans, so that a simple majority is sufficient instead of 60 votes, accelerating the approval of government appointments.

As SKAI’s correspondent in Washington Michalis Ignatius said, Gilfil is “ready”.

At the same time, as Ignatius noted, Gilfile met with Greece’s Minister of Maritime and Island Policy Vasilis Kikilia at the reception given in honor of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The reception was also attended by Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou, Ignatius added, “who had a good conversation with her. He showed that he knew very well and seemed to be going well, “Ignatius referring to an excellent meeting. “It impresses us with her knowledge of Greece,” the SKAI analyst added.

In addition, Ignatius added that Gilfile “has a number two who is amazing, he was very much involved with Greece, Cyprus and Turkey as an assistant deputy minister in the State Department”.

Regarding whether he had already learned some Greek phrases, Ignmatius noted that he greeted him in Greek by saying “good evening”.

Gilfil is expected to arrive in Athens in mid -October, after signing her appointment and swearing -in.

Thicken contacts in the US

He also noted that Gilfile “is very anxious to come to Greece and get a job. There are many issues, such as energy issues, “and added that” Mr. Kikilias and Mrs Papadopoulou did amazing. They had meetings at the State Department, the White House, the National Security Council, the Ministry of the Interior. We are talking about landing government officials in Washington. Mr Kikilias is leaving tomorrow, on Saturday, Mrs Papadopoulou to go with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the UN General Assembly, followed by Kyriakos Pierrakakis in a half week. I realize that others are following. Contacts are very thickened. “

Concerning when Mr Mitsotakis will come, Ignatius said that “whenever he requests it, his request will be accepted”.
