To the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias referred the Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadisas he mentioned, asked to comment on what the government intends to do for his protection Monument to the Unknown Soldierafter yesterday’s events of the relatives of the dead Tempo and solidarity.

As he said, the question is correct and you will address the competent minister from tomorrow. “From tomorrow the responsible minister will be Mr. Dendias as Minister of National Defense. So after the amendment is passed and it gets gazetted, in the next interview you will get from Mr. Dendias, ask what the Ministry of Defense intends to do with the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.” he reported speaking to Action 24.

The Monument to the Unknown Soldier is a monument that should unite all Greeks and be a symbol of the nation or should become a place where everyone who feels they have a right and a protest, will be able to use it for their own personal political purposes or their mourning or their distress or whatever. That’s the question we have to ask here.” the minister then noted.

And he went on to say:

“I don’t know of any state in the world where some portion appropriates a national symbol. On the planet we live in I have never seen it before. All the peoples of the world have deaths, accidents, mourning. Is there a human society that does not mourn something? Have you seen in another state of the world a monument to the whole being appropriated by some? The Monument to the Unknown Soldier has a sacredness: it symbolizes the dead who fell for their country in difficult times of this nation. If tomorrow anyone who has a protest goes and writes it there, the monument will have ended its life. For the monument to remain what it is, we must respect it.”
