“Today we have a double celebration as the Onassis Foundation turns 50 years old” said the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis referring to its state-of-the-art units Onasiou Hospital. Mr. Mitsotakis praised his work Onassio Foundation and said that the Onassio Children’s is developing into an integrated hospital that will be able to research and related cardiac diseases.
“The new transplant unit expands the stage of transplants. It is important that heart, lung and soon liver operations can be performed here,” he emphasized, making special mention of the evolution of the hospital and the new wards that were inaugurated.
“This is the culmination of the joint effort of the State and the Onassis Foundation” said the Prime Minister referring to the transplants. In his speech, Mr. Mitsotakis did not fail to talk about the relevant campaign of the Ministry of Health and the interest expressed by 50,000 citizens within twenty days to become organ donors. At the same time, he announced that the information campaign, via email, about transplants, will be repeated every October. “We need a little push to make a bid decision,” said Mr. Mitsotakis.
“In 2019 I asked to change what is holding us back and making us tailbacks in Europe, and after 6 years I am satisfied. We are not at the end of the road, but we are carrying out a huge reform that requires time and patience,” said Mr. Mitsotakis.
“In the Greek Health System, infrastructures and partnerships of hope are being created,” the Prime Minister emphasized, saying, among other things, that the foundations have been laid for other equally important steps. Making special mention of the long-term work of the Onassis Foundation, Mr. Mitsotakis also referred to Aristotle Onassis and his legacy, calling on other major donors to follow the example of the Onassis Hospital. The Prime Minister, closing his speech, wished “good luck to the new hospital”.

Speaking about Onasei’s 32 years of operation, Mr Ioannis Boletischairman of the Board of Directors stated that “our goal is for the new Onassios to offer high-quality care” while referring to the renovation he emphasized that it is not just the addition of a building but essentially a new hospital.
At the same time, Mr. Boletis referred to the new momentum acquired by Onassios Hospital with the transplant department, which has so far performed 267 heart transplants and 56 lung transplants, while as he pointed out, liver transplants are also planned for the next year.

“Today is an important day for the Onassis Hospital” said the president of the Onassis Foundation, Antonis Papadimitriou. “The new ward has already started and is welcoming patients. Onassio belongs to the Public Health System”, he noted while also pointing out the presence of important works of art in the Hospital’s rooms.
At the same time, Mr. Papadimitriou stated that he “acted as a catalyst for other benefactors” noting that Onassio is a successful partnership of the public and private sectors.
“Transplants are the cutting edge of medical science” the president of the Foundation pointed out, among other things, saying that the Onassios Hospital will be at the cutting edge of all new treatments.
