The problem of student accommodation and costs for families whose children attend universities in other cities, highlights the president of SYRIZA-PS, Socrates Famous.

In a post on social media he says: “The cost of living has skyrocketed and rents are literally out of reach. Each child in another city costs more than a salary. Of course, this does not interest Mr. Mitsotakis… His only concern is how he will make private colleges universities.”

He then develops SYRIZA’s positions on student housing: “Student housing must be the responsibility of the State. SYRIZA-PS proposes that in every city there should be public student residences, covering at least 50% of the children who come from other cities.

At the same time, there should be social housing, with low rents, in half of the market for those in need. There must be incentives to open foreclosed homes and rent them out at low rents. We demand that there be a reduction in taxes and an increase in income so that every family can support their children.” Generalizing, he argues: “Unfortunately, in Mr. Mitsotakis’ Greece, Education is for the few. In our own Progressive Greece it is for everyone”.
