Today begins the implementation of the School Meals program in school units, according to the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family and OPECA.

In the current school year 2025-2026, the program includes the provision of 231,062 hot meals, designed based on the Mediterranean diet, daily to Primary School students and is implemented in 1,918 school units from 153 municipalities nationwide.

The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michailidou underlined: “From today, 231,062 primary school students, throughout Greece, will enjoy a hot lunch every day. Our goal is to support, through this institution, the Greek family, the Greek region, our islands, remote and disadvantaged areas. Our commitment is, every year, to include more Municipalities and to offer quality and nutritious meals to more children. The school meals program is a daily concern of the Government and a starting point for equal opportunities, solidarity and social cohesion. We don’t just offer meals. We offer real food for cultivating values ​​and strengthening the social fabric.”

It is noted that the selection of the companies that implement the School Meals program is done through an open electronic competition, which defines strict specifications and control stages during the process of preparing, packaging and distributing the meals.
