At the beginning of his speech the Prime Minister expressed his joy at being part of the celebration of a company, as he said, “intertwined with the very history of the Greek state“, but also with her water supply and drains her of Athens.

He emphasized that this is a company that “it is 51% owned by the Greek State and this is not going to change“, recalling that its shares had been transferred to the Superfund and “by decision of this government they returned to the control of the State“, in order – as he noted – to ensure that “EYDAP will forever remain a state company».

The evidence is beyond dispute” and warned that the region may face in the future “very big water supply problem» if prompt and drastic measures are not taken. As he characteristically said, “hope is not a strategy“, pointing out that although the negative scenario may not be verified, “we must be ready at all times for the worst».

In this context, he referred to new project “Erytos” that was presented, which – as he pointed out – is “the continuation of Marathon, Ylikis, Mornos, the Evinos dam». He explained that this is gravity transport, without pumping stations, over 200 million cubic meters of water from them Krikeliotis rivers and Karpenisiotiswhich flow into the artificial lake of Hangingensuring the stable supply of the Evinos reservoir and the uninterrupted water supply of Attica “for the next 30 years”.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that the purpose of the government is “for the first time EYDAP to enter the field of irrigation water management“, speaking of a “experiment” which will prove that the company can add “added value” and in this field, which he characterized as “another kind of challenge».

In closing, he assured that “EYDAP will remain a public company“, noting that the investments will proceed by studying “all possible sources“, in order to ensure that the country will have “onot only the best but also the cheapest possible water».
