Plakiotaki Statement for Turkey: Refused to Comply – Ship Not Accepted |

by

North of Karpathos, accompanied by Coast Guard boats, sails the cargo ship, about 400 migrants, which was located in the sea area east of Crete, having started from the Turkish coast to Italy.

The Greek government is on an open line with Brussels and FRONTEX, while in addition to the vessels of the port, there are tugs near the Turkish ship in order to be driven safely to a point which has not been notified.

In his statement, the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Giannis Plakiotakis stated that Turkey did not accept Greece’s request for the return of the ship with the migrants.

“Turkey has once again refused to comply with its commitments to the EU. It has not accepted the return of a Turkish-flagged ship that sailed from a Turkish port, apparently with the knowledge of the Turkish Coast Guard and continues to be indifferent to human life. “Greece proves once again that it fully respects international law and that the protection of maritime borders is combined with the protection of human life.”
