Pierre-Oliver, surf instructor and three-time French adapted surfing champion, saved the lives of two teenagers last Saturday, the 21st. The scenes were captured by the mother of one of Pierre’s students, who saw two teenagers drowning and managed to signal to the instructor that was in the water. Pierre is hearing impaired.

The images show one of the teenagers using the other victim as a kind of buoy. By the time Pierre catches up with the pair, the girl is completely submerged and upon emerging it is possible to hear the girl’s screams. The scene took place on La Barre beach in Anglet.

Pierre tells, in a statement on the networks, that the occurrence of rip currents in La Barre is very common.

“I took the girl to the beach while one of my students took the boy. It’s very rare to have a video like this and I hope the images raise awareness in the community”, says Pierre.

“In a panic, the young man used the girl as a buoy to keep from drowning. It’s the survival instinct,” Oliver reported.
