by

Starting this Friday, 27th, the period in which the G-Land stage, Java, Indonesia can take place. Three-time world champion Gabriel Medina will be back after about five months away from the world stages.

In addition to Gabriel Medina, Brazilians Filipe Toledo, Italo Ferreira, Miguel and Samuel Pupo, Caio Ibelli, Jadson André, Yago Dora and Tatiana Weston-Webb compete in the event.

“I see Gabriel’s surfing very compatible with the characteristics of the G-land wave, which has a tubular formation, on a shallow and very extensive coral bench”, says Claudinha Gonçalves, a commentator for Globo.

The broadcast will feature narrators Luiz Carlos Jr, Everaldo Marques, André Azevedo and Sérgio Arenillas and commentators Alejo Muniz, Bruno Bocayuva and Jessé Mendes.

Globoplay and the ge site broadcast all the heats up to the round of 16 and, from the quarter-finals onwards, sportv3 shows live the decisive heats until the title is defined.

The G-Land stage, which returns to the circuit after 25 years, will be the first after the mid-season cut of surfers. Therefore, the first round will have eight heats with three surfers. The champion of each of them advances straight to the round of 16, while the others must go through the repechage.

Gabriel Medina won an invite from the WSL to compete in the second half of the season. To have a chance to fight for the title, the current champion needs to position himself among the top five in the ranking until the last stage before the ‘WSL Finals’which will be held in Trestles, California (USA).
