Sergio Pérez described winning the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix as “a dream come true”.

The Red Bull driver won the cult street lap after a chaotic race, with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr. in second and Perez’s teammate Max Verstappen in third.

The sudden downpour delayed the start of the race by more than an hour, but when it started Perez, making his third start, was able to keep pace with Charles Leclerc and Sints Ferrari from the start. ..

With a smart strategic decision, he led the round of pit stops and despite slow pressure to chase him down, the Mexican went on to his first win of the season, only the third of his F1 career.

“I’m very, very happy,” Perez said after the race.

“As a driver, you always dream of winning here. I don’t think there will be a special weekend victory after the home race.”

“In the end, we made things a bit more complicated by smashing. [on the tyres].. I didn’t have to make a mistake going home. Staying behind Carlos has never been so easy.

“Today is a great day for me and for my country. Today I am wearing a Pedro Rodríguez helmet. He is there and very proud of what we have achieved in the sport.”

Rodríguez is a Mexican F1 driver who won two races before his death in 1971 and, along with Pérez, is considered one of the best drivers in the country’s history.

After seven laps, Verstappen still leads the drivers’ championship with 125 points, just nine points behind Leclerc and Pérez by six points.

In the Constructors’ Table, Red Bull led with 235 points, Ferrari was close and Mercedes came third after George Russell and Sir Lewis Hamilton finished fifth and eighth in Monaco.
