Frank de John told Manchester United and Erik Ten Hag that his advantage is to stay in Barcelona.

Ten Hag has made Dejon one of the main targets for the summer window as United’s new manager is looking to refresh the midfield at Old Trafford ahead of next season.

Barcelona are known to be ready to sell De John to balance their finances this summer, but Spanish clubs are asking 25-year-olds to pay £70m…

However, De John says he wants to stay at the Camp Nou, with the club saying he is not saying United are taking a particular approach.

“I was stupid when they asked me about other clubs.
“This time it’s gone,” De John told Dutch media on Tuesday.

Asked if he reached out to him, De John said: “I can’t say anything about it, but I’d rather stay in Barcelona.

“I have said that ‘Barcelona’ has been my dream club since I was a child. Every time I get a call from another club, I definitely get one. This is something that always happens.”

However, De Jung admits he is aware of the link with the move to United.

“Of course, I guess,” said the midfielder.

“But I haven’t heard anything from the club’s management, so I think there is nothing concrete or an agreement has already been reached. So there is no point in thinking about it.”

De Jung was also asked about the possibility of a reunion with a former Ajax coach.

“Given the past with Erik Ten Hag, this is a logical connection,” De John said.

“But this is… the link is logical and anyone can do it.”

Asked if he had spoken to Ten Hag about joining United, De John said: “I can’t say anything else. I don’t think so with other clubs and managers.”
