West Ham defender Kurt Zuma escaped from prison but was banned from keeping animals for five years after being found guilty of kicking and stabbing his cat.

French footballers will also offer 180 hours of community service after a disturbing video showing them attacking a cat earlier this year.

Zuma’s younger brother John, who shot the movie, was assigned 140 hours of social service.

Westham’s Starzuma, signed by Chelsea in 2021, pleaded guilty to two violations under the Animal Welfare Act at a hearing at Thames Magistrates Court on May 24.

A video uploaded to Snapchat on February 6 shows Zuma hitting a Bengal cat in the kitchen in front of his 7-year-old son.

Zuma also threw his cat’s shoes and kicked him in the back. In another video he heard: “I swear, I’ll kill you.”

Susan Holdam, a district judge who described the case as “embarrassing and suspicious,” said brother Zuma had no prior guilt and pleaded guilty as soon as possible.

“The cat was taking care of you and responding to your needs. That February day you were not responding to his needs,” he added. “You need to know that others are looking at you and many young people are trying to imitate you.”

Zuma, a member of the French national team, has pleaded guilty to two counts of causing unnecessary pain to sheltered animals, and John, who plays for Dagenham and Redbridge, is his brother.

Premier League star Zuma apologized for the February action and later agreed to deport the two Bengal cats to the RSPCA.

West Ham fined the players £250,250,000 before losing its sponsorship deal with sportswear company Adidas. He also missed the French team.

Dermot Murphy, Inspector General of the RSPCA, said: “Dealing with such animals was never accepted and we were shocked when the video was first offered.

What makes this case even more unfortunate is the recording and sharing of videos exposing such cruelty.

“I hope this incident reminds us that all animals deserve to be treated with kindness, compassion and respect, and that we do not tolerate atrocities from anyone.

Zuma has made 32 appearances for West Ham since transferring $300m from Chelsea last year.
