In the announcement of SEGAS for the GGA grant, the Athletics Federation refers to the actions that have been taken since the beginning of the year and concern the High Sports, while it also stood by the increased needs that exist.
In detail, the announcement:
“The season for 2022 is in full swing with dozens of champions / champions who staff the SEGAS National teams competing in major events, in all corners of the earth, giving a great ‘present’ to the arenas of Classic Sports.
With a number of training camps to have preceded and followed, in view of major events, SEGAS has multiplied the participation of athletes compared to previous years.
At this juncture, the Ministry of Sports, implementing its commitment, provided extraordinary funding from state revenues from betting taxes, amounting to 1 million euros.
This amount is already in the fund of the Federation and it is certain that it will contribute substantially to the enhanced preparation program of the athletes of the National teams that has been prepared and implemented by SEGAS.
It should be noted that SEGAS is the most historic and most populous sports federation in Greece, having in its power over 400 clubs, while in the current season it has decided to participate in all international organizations of all age groups (Balkan Championships, European, World etc. .) with full National teams, thus giving the opportunity and the possibility to more athletes to gain valuable experiences and to achieve distinctions.
SEGAS participates over time in the Greek mission for the Olympic Games with the largest delegation and by participating in more events than any other sports federation.
In the recent OA he had important distinctions, with the top being the gold medal in a competition with the highest competition, in which all the countries of the world participate.
Despite the suffering we have suffered as a federation, like the entire Greek people, from the pandemic (deprivation of marathon revenue, increased costs of events, etc.) but also chronic problems, such as lack of sports infrastructure and equipment, we look to the future with optimism thanks to great efforts of athletes, coaches, clubs.
We thank the Undersecretary of Sports for his help and we believe that there will be continuity from the Undersecretary Mr. Avgenakis, with the timely implementation of the commitments he has undertaken, to ensure the necessary infrastructure (closed Paiania, OAKA etc.), which is so much needed The track.
