In a match that featured an error by Cássio and another goal conceded in the final minutes, Corinthians completed the eighth consecutive game without winning as a visitor. This Thursday (25), the executioner was Ceará, who won 2-1, at Castelão.
The result slows the rise of the Parque São Jorge club in the Brazilian Championship and prevents the team from closing the gap to rival Palmeiras, in third place.
In the last round, the team led by Sylvinho beat Santos, 2-0, in Itaquera, and went on to appear in fourth position, the best they have ever occupied at Nacional.
Without scoring on this Thursday, they remain with 53 points, with six less than the Palmeirenses. The only reason it didn’t lose a position in the table was that Fortaleza, in fifth, was defeated by Santos, 2-0, in Vila. The team from Ceará has 52 points.
The mission to end the fast away from home became even more difficult early on in the match, at 6 minutes, when Cássio missed a throw-in and midfielder Vina took advantage of the defender’s leaving to finish from outside the area and surprise the goalkeeper.
The move allowed Ceará to retreat from the mark and start exploring counterattacks, while the Corinthians were scratching the ball from one side to the other in search of space to finish.
Part of the difficulty in the Corinthians frame was due to the absence of Renato Augusto, who was spared the game by coach Sylvinho. At 33, he joined the club in late July after an eight-month period of inactivity.
Luan, chosen to act in the midfield of Alvinegro, could not give a faster pace to the sector, as Corinthians did in the derby.
Only at 35 minutes did the team from São Paulo have a clear chance, when Gabriel Pereira turned under the markings in the penalty area, but facing the goal he submitted on top of the goalkeeper.
Just after the break, after 10 minutes, Sylvinho fielded Renato Augusto and, along with him, Willian. Du Queiroz and Luan left the game.
The changes made Corinthians more offensive and the team started to create clearer opportunities to seek a draw. And he did it, at 38, with Róger Guedes. Three minutes later, however, Yony González left the home team ahead again, closing the score.
The last triumph of Sylvinho’s team as a visitor was on August 28, 1-0, over Grêmio. Afterwards, there were five defeats (Sport, São Paulo, Atlético-MG, Flamengo and Ceará) and three draws (Internacional, Atlético-GO and Red Bull Bragantino) in the period.
The next appointment, now, will be against Athletico, on Sunday (28), at Neo Química Arena.
