Somehow, Ferstappen opened even more the difference in the title fight and shows that he is the absolute boss again this year to keep the… scepters. Saint and Hamilton completed the podium, Russell finished fourth and Leclerc in fifth place with an incredible demarcation from the 19th that started.
After a clear start in Canada, Ferstappen turned first in the first turn and started to open the gap directly, reaching a lead of almost 2 seconds after three laps. Behind him, a train had begun to form, with Leclerc starting the demarage from the 19th position he started and constantly gaining seats.
Ferstappen and Hamilton entered the pits in the 10th round, the series changed with Sainth leading and Alonso in second, but Ferstappen came in second again in five rounds. For the second time before the 20th lap we had a virtual safety car, something that several pilots, including Saint, took advantage of to get into the pits.
Ferstappen had regained the lead, Sainth was second but by a long way, with Hamilton, Alonso following and Leclerc having climbed 6th, without having made a pit stop yet.
Ferstappen’s tires were starting to wear out in the middle of the Grand Prix, the thoughts of a second pit stop worried his team but they decided to throw him in. When he came out, he found himself wheel by wheel with Hamilton, in a snapshot reminiscent of last year’s battles, with the Dutchman finally overtaking him in the next round, coming in second.
Ferstappen had fresh tires, picked up the difference too fast and with 20 laps left, it looked certain he would soon be approaching Saint. Tsunoda’s abandonment, however, gave the Mexican the opportunity to enter the pits, came out second and the safety car made its appearance, eliminating its difference from the Dutchman who was ahead. That was it, we had a fight again.
Ferstappen did not open the gap for more than a second from Saint, which gave the latter the right to use the DRS but even when he approached him at 3 tenths of a second, he could not pass him. Saint pressed, Ferstappen endured and with a terrific ride in the Grand Prix final, the Dutch Red Bull Racing driver took another victory, the second in a row.
