Erik Ten Hag points to a “multipurpose” breakthrough after Darwin Núñez returned to Manchester United in favor of Liverpool.
The Uruguayan striker joined the Reds earlier this month with a 6.464 million contract, with Jurgen Klopp winning the battle for the Benfica star.
United had a keen interest in Nunez but withdrew the contract when it became clear that Anfield was the preferred location for him. On the other hand, the Red Devils didn’t want to spend more than half of his budget on him either.
Nunez is a long-time replacement for Old Trafford’s Cristiano Ronaldo, and the 22-year-old is considered a center forward.
But when similar alternatives are in the spotlight, ESPN reports that Ten Hag has changed his plans and is now gearing up for a more “universal” breakthrough.
Ajax winger Anthony is a priority target and the Brazilians can play on both wings.
But the Dutch giant wants a 22-year-old for 68 million pounds. This is well above what United are willing to pay.
United are closing in on the signing of Frenkie de Jong and want to convince Christian Eriksen to join the club rather than stay at Brentford.
Ideally, Ten Hague wants to add a central defender to the team, but defenders are considered the least relevant newcomers.
