Novak Djokovic has announced his intention to join Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray after playing at London’s O2 at Wimbledon in 2022.

The 20th champion is currently defending the Wimbledon crown. This is his six-time winner’s tournament, where he could beat Tanasco Kinaki in the second round on Wednesday and face second seed Nadaru in the final.

After the match, the 35-year-old Serbs, the top seed at this year’s championship, were asked about a reunion with their compatriots at the Federer Laver Cup in September, admitting it was a “unique” “opportunity”.

The Laver Cup, an indoor competition, was founded in 2017 by Federer, who had not participated in Wimbledon this year. Federer, like the Ryder Cup in golf, is dominated by star-studded European and world teams.

Nadal and Federer, who won 43 Grand Slams together, have already been confirmed for the 2022 event, alongside British hero Murray, who fell from Wimbledon on Wednesday, and will be coached by Grand Slam Bjorn Borg.

When asked about potential participation this year at The O2 in London, Djokovic, who participated in the 2018 tournament, said:

“This is an opportunity. My agent is in contact with the Laver Cup team. There is an agreement that there will be a decision after Wimbledon is over.”

“The Laver Cup is the only tournament where all the big opponents, the big 3 and the big 4 can be combined into one team.

“This is a very different and interesting concept not only for us, our players, but also for our fans around the world. The O2 Arena is a familiar place for me and our players. We are on a world tour in this stadium. I have been playing the finals for more than 10 years.

“I think the tradition of British tennis has contributed to a very successful event for over a decade, so of course it would be fun to play there again.”

The European team dominated the latest Labor Cup by defeating Team World Boston 14-1 with a team that included Daniil Medvedev, Stefano Titicus and Alexander Zverev.
