The English girls are thankful for the record number of fans who played the opening round of Euro 2022 against Austria.

The Three Lions defeated Austria 1-0, opening the tournament with 68,871 players at Old Trafford, creating a noisy atmosphere and setting a record number of participants in the Women’s Euro Cup match.

It wasn’t England’s best performance, but Manchester’s noise level didn’t drop for a second, and the players were grateful to be roaming around the stadium full-time.

I can’t put it into words. It’s a great night to start a tournament with a win.” Beth Mead, who scored a decisive goal, told BBC Sport.

“I am very happy to have scored the goal for the team.” He was very confident. [it was across the line] But you always doubt yourself after a while.

Listen to the atmosphere, it’s amazing. I want to tell you that we understand what he said [manager Sarina Wiegman] He was saying that, but it was so loud that we couldn’t hear him!

We were all lovers of sweet Caroline. She’ll probably report back in the locker room. “

Unfortunately, this is the only time Old Trafford will be used for tournaments, with the remainder of the game being played in a much smaller capacity stadium.

The remainder of England’s group matches will be played at Brighton’s Amex Stadium, but the final will be played at Wembley and, given its 90,000 capacity, the record could be broken again.

Still, England captain Leah Williamson is grateful for Wednesday night’s support and hopes to continue to support next month.

He states: I didn’t know what to expect. We did very well with that.

“I had my eyes closed during the national anthem. When I saw my mother, I started crying because she was so involved. I save it.

‘what happened? The fans came out and connected well. It was a good start to the tournament.

‘aloud. Communication becomes difficult. It can get in the way, but I always carry it with me. Good atmosphere. “
