Three-time F1 world champion Nelson Pique faces a court hearing and possible £1.5m fine for his infamous racist abuse of Lewis Hamilton.

In a podcast interview in my hometown last month, 69-year-old footage resurfaces showing Hamilton’s Brazilian Portuguese equivalent of an n-word slur and uses homosexual disgust. The interview was recorded last November, but it was only at the end of June that it drew attention on Brazilian television.

Pique was discussing the incident between Hamilton and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone last year. There, the pair took the lead towards the Cops corner and Verstappen hit the barrier at speed.

Hamilton went on a notorious rampage, including words from the infamous racist, after Pique, who had been dating Felstappen for several years, blamed his daughter Kelly for the incident. In an extended version of the clip, Piqué also uses a homosexual slur towards Hamilton.

Both Formula 1 and Hamilton’s Mercedes team have blamed Pique’s comments.

“We do not accept any form of discriminatory or racist language and it does not exist in society,” Mercedes said in a statement. “We are against all kinds of racist or discriminatory language. We condemn its use. Lewis is leading our sports efforts to combat racism and is a true champion of diversity on and off the track.

Hamilton responded by posting a powerful message online about the need to act.

“It’s more than a language,” he wrote on Twitter. “This archaic way of thinking has to change and our sport is meaningless. I have been surrounded by these attitudes and have been the target of my life. I had a lot of time to study. . It is time to act”.

Piqué eventually apologized, but it mainly consisted of trying to justify his use of the fantastic vocabulary.

Now, a São Paulo judge has ordered an investigation into Picket’s comments after the human rights group accused Picket of causing moral harm to black and LGBTQ+ people.

The allegations include a claim of £1.5m in damages from Pique. Piqué has 15 days to sue Felipe Costa and Fonseka Gómez in the Federal District Justice for knowing their process.
