Shelley-Anne Fraser-Pryce won the record fifth women’s 100m world title in another clean medal sweep from Jamaica.
The 35-year-old cyclist crossed the finish line in a championship-record time of 10.67 seconds ahead of third-place finisher Elaine Thompson Hera in Eugene, Oregon.
Britain’s Dinah Usher-Smith, on the other hand, was in fourth place, rivaling the UK record of 10.83.
Fraser Price returned to sports in 2017 after the birth of her daughter Zion and became the oldest woman to win 100 million titles worldwide in 2019.
“I have this talent and I feel like I’m blessed with this talent, to continue to do it at the age of 35, to have a baby and still allow women to travel alone and hopefully inspire,” she said. “I can’t even imagine how many times I’ve been frustrated and come back, but I’m still here.”
“I remember sometimes it wasn’t because I didn’t have the opportunity, but it was the right time. It was the right time and I would appreciate your continued support.”
“This is the third 1-2-3 I’ve been in and I’m really excited. I was able to win.”
Asher-Smith, who was unable to compete in the 100m final at the Tokyo Olympics last year and was forced to withdraw from the 200m final due to injury, admitted he had to “kill” to finish the podium
“This performance was amazing for me and I won a great championship,” he said.
I couldn’t really fail, but I’m really grumpy that he didn’t make it to the podium. I was very close. But these are just champions. I’m upset.
“So far, it’s been an interesting season for me. I was sick for a while, but after 200 meters I had some life that I wanted to talk more about.”
“I had to make sure I was really running, not my family or here.
“Our aim is to keep moving fast through the summer in the Commonwealth and Europe, but I really came here to get on the podium.”
