New experience abroad for Giorgos Stamatouros. The 23-year-old international table tennis player will compete in the 2022-2023 season in the Danish championship and wear the B75 shirt. The club is based in the city of Hirtshals, a port at the northernmost tip of the country and participates in the 1st national division. In the championship of the 2021-2022 season, he won 3rd place and with the support from Greece, his main goal is to be in the medals this year as well. Stamatouros competed last season in the Pro B of France with the colors of Istre. He is not leaving France, but the regulations from the Danish federation do not allow him to participate simultaneously in another country’s top league. He returns to the National categories and came to an agreement for a small number of games with Romans (ASPTT Romans). Giorgos Konstantinopoulos is returning to the same team as usual, leaving Poland, while his brother Konstantinos, who is also an athlete of the men’s national team, continues.
Stamatouros began his international journey in France when he was 17 years old. For five consecutive years he worked with Enebon, even getting opportunities to participate in Pro A (the top professional league) and the Champions League. Last year he moved to Istre, he also gained useful experiences in the second strongest league in the country, simply because of an injury he played fewer matches than he expected. His tally was 2 wins and 7 losses.
The B75 coaching staff had an opinion on his value, made an offer and he accepted it. The team is likely to declare in Europe as well. The system of conducting the championship defines two rounds and playoffs. The launch is scheduled for September 10-11. The Greek champion of the men’s singles in 2021 and the youth men’s singles in 2019 has also closed in Roman, which he will help when needed in the National 1 championship. He does not have the right to participate in the Greek A1, however, which was also the case last year. However, he will be able to compete in the Cup, as he also did last season.
Some changes in the same part also concern Giorgos Konstantinopoulos. In the previous season, he competed in the Polish league with the colors of Orlis 1924 and did not have the right to be present in another inter-club championship at the same time. He had unexpectedly found himself in a Cup match with Panathinaikos, while he once also went to a play-off in France (as he also deserved) for Roman. This year he left Poland, agreed to be regular in Roman and National 1, but he still won’t be able to compete in Greek A1. The reason is that the French federation has changed the rules and allows from this season only two athletes from each National team to participate in other foreign club championships at the same time. Thus, the choice of the Greek men’s doubles champion is to compete only in France, while his brother Konstantinos and his teammate in the pan-Hellenic men’s doubles title will have the opportunity to continue in Sweden with Record and in Greece with Panathinaikos . We remind you that all three athletes are on the men’s national team’s mission for next August’s European Championship in Munich.
