The 32 teams participating in the World Cup in Qatar will stay in palaces, spas and luxury hotels where alcoholic beverages are prohibited, FIFA said on Tuesday.
All teams have chosen to establish their ‘base camps’ within the tiny emirate for the tournament, which starts on 21 November.
Delegations will stay in the same accommodation throughout their stay in Qatar.
According to the list published by FIFA, 24 teams will be accommodated in hotels and establishments “located within a radius of 10 kilometers from each other”.
Brazil chose the Westin hotel in downtown Doha, while Argentina and Spain will stay in “luxury” accommodation at the University of Doha, from where they can walk to their training centre.
France, the current world champion, will have as its “domicile” Al Massila, a hotel complex near Doha, which mainly highlights its profile as a “private palace”. The daily rates there cost more than US$ 2,500.
In turn, Germany will have its base in the Zulal resort, which presents itself as the largest wellness center in the Middle East. It is owned by the Qatari royal family and the “royal suite” costs more than $10,000 a night.
The accommodation for the German delegation will be the furthest from Doha, 100 kilometers from the city, but the four-time champions will have the advantage of being “in a bubble” isolated from the crowds, says the establishment’s director, Daniele Vasatolo.
England will be staying at the Souq Al Wakra hotel, where authorities plan to privatize a part of the nearby public beach for the selection of Harry Kane and his companions.
The hotel does not serve alcohol, but improvements to the sports room and entertainment alternatives for gamers, such as video games, are planned.
More than a million people are expected in Qatar for the 2022 World Cup, whose final is scheduled for December 18.
Some fans have booked hotels at $2,000 a day, while others are looking for cheaper alternatives, such as bungalows or tents in the desert.
