The main feature of EFOEPA for the Panhellenic Men-Women Table Tennis Championship is that it creates two different events, wanting to offer new motivation to the participants and changes the qualification system.
As mentioned in the announcement, the Panhellenic Men-Women Championship for the period 2021-2022 will be divided into regional championships and a final phase. In December, there will be matches in four regions (Attica, Northern Greece, Western Greece, Other country – island Greece), which will not only have the character of qualifiers, but will go to the end and will emerge local champions.
The final phase will follow in February, where there will be qualifiers from the Greek evaluation tables. The regional qualifiers are set for the weekend of December 18 and 19.
Η Ε.Φ.Ο.Επ.Α. stands in the new format of the top event and at the same time notes that, unfortunately, it is forced, due to the very difficult economic situation, to pay participation fees in all its events.
The Regional Games are only about the simple. The organization of Attica will take place in Piraeus and more specifically in SEF. The corresponding of Northern Greece in Kavala, that of Western Greece-Peloponnese at the Pampeloponnisian Stadium of Patras and that of the Other Country and Islands will depend on the participation statements.
The final phase, scheduled for the two days 26 and 27 February 2022, will have the doubles match and, of course, other dates for registration.
From Monday 31/1/2022 to Monday 14/2/2022 for the simple and from Monday 31/1/2022 to Wednesday 16/2/2022 for the doubles of men and women. The venue will be announced at least one month before the scheduled date of the Panhellenic Championship.
In the Regional Games there are groups in the first phase and “knock out” matches in the second. As champions emerge, athletes will have the opportunity and distinction to “chase” and give more games.
Also, in the regional championships, the best athletes get the motivation for the extra races, even if they know that they will qualify for the finals from the evaluation tables.
In the final phase of the singles, 64 men and 48 women will compete. In the first case, the 43 athletes will qualify from the regional championships and the 21 from the evaluation table, which will be valid in the month of the end of the applications for the final phase.
In the second case, the 32 athletes will qualify from the regional championships and the 16 from the evaluation table, which will be valid when the applications expire. Therefore, 2/3 of the qualifications come from the first event and the remaining 1/3 from the evaluation tables.
The federation also emphasizes that the number of qualifiers from each regional championship results from the percentage of actual participation statements of each region on the total actual participation in the regional championships in Greece.
The 21 positions of men and 16 women, which qualify from the evaluation table, emerge, of course, after the qualifiers are removed from the regional championships. EFOEPA simply sets a limit and is number 96 in the men’s category and number 72 in the women category.
