The opening game will be between Qatar, the home team, and Ecuador, on November 20, a Sunday. Previously, the schedule foresaw the first matches for November 21. Senegal vs Netherlands, England vs Iran and United States vs Wales enter the field on this date.

The opening game will take place at Al Bayt Stadium, in Al Khor, 50 km from Doha, the country’s capital, at 1 pm (Brasilia time).

According to FIFA, the idea of ​​the change is to make the World Cup have only one match on the first day to symbolize the beginning of the tournament.

“Thanks to this modification, the continuity of an old World Cup tradition is guaranteed, whereby the hosts or current champions play the first match of the competition, which is held together with the opening ceremony,” FIFA said in a statement. .

According to AFP, for fans who have tickets for November 21, any logistical issues will be handled in the best possible way to minimize any impact.

With the change of Qatar x Ecuador, the confrontation between Senegal x Holland, on the 22nd, will move from 7 am to 1 pm (both from Brasília).
