More victorious than Tite at Corinthians, Arthur Elias seeks 10th female title

If Corinthians’ favoritism is confirmed with a triumph over São Paulo in the decision of the Campeonato Paulista, coach Arthur Elias, 40, will win his 10th title for the team alvinegra.

The first game of the decision will be this Saturday (4), at 4 pm, with free entry and the presence only of the São Paulo fans at Morumbi. The match will be shown by the SporTV channel and by the streaming platforms Paulistão Play, YouTube and Eleven.

Tite, Corinthians’ most successful coach in the history of men’s football, with six titles, two Brazilians (2011 and 2015), one Libertadores (2012), one Club Mundial (2012), one Campeonato Paulista (2013) and one Recopa (2013).

Arthur José Ribas Elias, from São Paulo, played for São Paulo’s youth teams, but when he was still in his teens, he gave up on his career as an athlete. Afterwards, he entered the physical education course at the University of São Paulo (USP).

She started working with the female modality at the age of 24, in academic institutions. He left USP for Mackenzie and won his first title for a professional team, the 2013 Brazilian Championship, in charge of the Olympic Center.

To work on this last team, Elias received an invitation from former basketball player Magic Paula, the club’s director. He joined as coordinator, but soon revealed his intention to work as a coach.

With Corinthians since 2016, Elias has already led the team in 250 matches: 200 wins and 784 goals, in addition to nine titles won.

Such marks were consolidated in the 2-0 victory over Independiente de Santa Fe (COL), by the Libertadores Cup decision, on the 21st. Adriana and Gabi Portilho scored the Corinthians goals.

In his first two seasons, when there was the Audax/Corinthians partnership, the coach raised the cups for the Copa do Brasil (2016) and Libertadores (2017).

In 2018, already separated from Audax, he went to Parque São Jorge and won the Brazilian Championship that year, a feat that he would repeat in 2020 and 2021.

It also snapped up the 2019 Libertadores and the 2019 and 2020 editions of the São Paulo Championship.

“For me it’s a pride to play in another final and have the chance to win this tenth title. Because we know the difficulties in each of these nine championships. We work hard for that to happen, I managed to have a very large professional growth since I arrived at Corinthians,” says the coach.

Coveted by other teams, he has already renewed his contract with Corinthians for next year. And he has the desire to migrate to men’s football.

“It’s objective, yes, and I’ve already had an invitation. [troca] it should happen, I don’t know when, and maybe it won’t be long. I feel prepared for any challenge, I don’t see this distinction as many and the market do”, says Elias.

“I don’t see what we do being repeated [tipo de trabalho] neither female nor male. So I know my appreciation and I do intend to [migrar], but it is a step that has a risk, and we need to measure it. Working on a project that gives security and conditions to develop the work.”

Elias turned to his colleagues at USP to format his technical committee. Assistant Rodrigo Iglesias, physical trainer Marcelo Rossetti, performance analyst Bruno Faust and physiologist Ronaldo Kobal studied at the university.

In the decision for the state title against São Paulo, Elias is reunited with a partner from his time at the Olympic Center. Lucas Piccinato, 31, in charge of the Tricolor club since the women’s sport was reactivated at Morumbi, in 2019, revealed his gratitude and admiration for the Corinthians.

While at the Olympic Center, Elias invited Piccinato to work in the youth categories, in 2014, and, in the following year, he promoted him to help him lead the professional cast.

“It was Elias who opened the doors for me in the feminine. I have great admiration for the person and the gigantic professional, he is a friend I always want around”, says Piccinato.

The current final of the Campeonato Paulista will be a repeat of the battle of 2019. On that occasion, Corinthians got the better of São Paulo. That season, the São Paulo fans were able to celebrate access to the elite of the Brazilian Championship.

This time, the team from Alvinegro is again the favorite for what it has done throughout this season. In 11 State games, Corinthians won ten and drew only one (with Palmeiras). São Paulo, on the other hand, also won ten and suffered only one defeat, precisely to Corinthians (2 to 1).

In the semifinals of Paulista, Corinthians passed through Ferroviária, from Araraquara, and São Paulo eliminated Santos.

To accompany Majestoso in Morumbi, it is necessary to present proof of complete vaccination or test with a negative result (antigen or PCR).

Paulista’s second and final confrontation will be on Wednesday (8), at 9 pm, at Arena Barueri. After the São Paulo Football Federation (FPF) announced the date of the duel, Corinthians justified that it had already rented the Neo Química Arena, where Santander bank will hold its end-of-year fraternization.
